DIPLOMATIC COUP

The 3rd edition of the cash-rich IPL is already upon us. It is rather unfortnate that politics has removed whatever sheen that remained with IPL after it went to South Africa.

By effectively sidelining Pakistan players during the auction on Janury 19th, the likes of Lalit Modi have reopened old wounds. This does not augur well as Commonwealth Games are round the corner. Lest one forgets, India is paying host to the sporting extravaganza.

Modi and collectively every Indian cricketer recently showed that they are anything but humane. When the hockey players were fighting for their dues, none dared to express solidarity with them. Even the IPL and BCCI were foundig wanting on this count. A rising star like Saina Nehwal did what the cricketers were expected to do.

Shame on Modi and the so called members of the gentleman's game.
